Cars and Women
No wonder cars are given women's names. Between the two of them, it's a wonder that a guys have a need for banks at all. Before we can even have the experience of having the reassuring weight of a few hard earned dollars in our overworked hands, it zips out of our futile grasps on its way to those that demand it.
Today this bit of wisdom and cynicism stems from the stern and necessarily heeded demands of my car. I give and give, and yet it only keeps demanding more. Orders come loudly and sharply. They cannot even be considered requests due to the pointedness with which they rend flesh from bones. Obedience is compulsory and gratification must come absolutely and instantly. Like an insatiable mistress it knows I cannot in good sense refuse her demands for fear of her wrath and the reprecussions. So like the broken shell of a man I am, I heed her and feed her, continuously shoveling my small fortunes into her fiery, wonderous, elegant maw.
The good news from this weekend is that my UCLA Bruins are 7-0. We finally had a game where we played from ahead. The come-from-behind 4th quarter heroics, while dramatic was certainly taxing on my poor heart. More intriguing about this past Saturday's game was that the Oregon State quarterback is a transfer from UCLA. Matt Moore competed for the Bruins starting QB job but ultimately lost to Drew Olson and then he decided to transfer to OSU. Matt Moore played a good game, but it was clear that he hasn't quite the poise and leadership that Drew Olson has. Matt did hit his best reciever, Hass for 199 yards though. But the only numbers that matters are 51 and 28 which is what the final score was once the day was over. Drew Olson threw a UCLA record 6 touchdowns and an amazing 11 touchdowns in back to back games. 5 from the game before and 6 in this past contest. The 5 TD performance gave him a shared record with the Cade McNown, his 6 versus OSU gives him the record outright. Oh and Maurice Drew had a typical great game as well. Rushing, recieving, punt returning. The man is a beast.
Okay, so I guess the title was a bit misleading. There are no women in this post. To make mention of a woman, I'll volunteer that in my opinion the most desireable woman in the world today is Charlize Theron.
