Television
Over the past year or so I have been watching a large amount of television, but up until recently it has been what I will call untargeted television. Meaning, I don't actually watch shows as much as I just turn on the TV and flip through channels. (Usually landing on ESPN... but that is an insight for another day.) What has occured recently is that I have a few TV shows that I actively seek out and watch.
There is an outrageous amount of TV shows to choose from these days, because even though I actively follow 3 or 4 shows, none of that includes the "hit" shows like Lost, 24, Battlestar Galactica (a hit amongst, the 'geek' subculture,) or Family Guy (which is more like candy for the brain.) And definitely no "reality" shows. The shows I follow are Scrubs, House, How I Met Your Mother (which seems to have a very small following from the reaction I get when I mention this to friends,) and Two and a Half Men.
Looking over that list you'll notice it's almost all sitcoms. That's not a coincidence. I prefer my television shows to be comedies because I want to laugh when I'm spending my time watching TV. I believe sitcoms are the only brand of quality television. House isn't a sitcom but it is also pretty funny in its own right, even if it is only because I find the brilliant, self-loathing, caustic characters like Dr. House hilarious.
